Camp Motivation Poster #7 - DANCING
Only one week until our first Nebraska Camp 2010
Register today:

1). Song of the day: ♫ There will be a day - Jeremy Camp ♫

2). Blog Entry:

The other day, I was helping my wife bring some groceries in from our car. As I set the bag on the counter, my phone slipped out of my hand. I tried to brace it's fall instinctively with my leg, but wound up kicking it - right into my dog's water dish. UGH! I quickly grabbed it out and wiped it off, but the damage was done. All of the buttons on the screen worked, but the sound was much lower than normal. About an hour later, the sound came back, but the buttons stopped working and the screen wouldn't light up. Right before camp, this was not a good thing. I said a quick prayer, and then figured that I'd have to go the phone store early the next morning to get a new one.

Well, I woke up to a perfectly good phone. I don't know when it started back up, but it sure did. Two lessons - 1) don't kick your phone to try and save it and 2) God still answers prayers.

Today is also National No Tobacco Day, a great day to start the road of being free from smoking. Next week, when camps start, we will again change the format of our blog and do daily updates of pictures and testimonies from camp.

This past week, we had a family that let us know about their desire to bring their children to camp. But they didn't think it would work because of their dire financial situation. We started looking for possible solutions. Later on that day, a man stopped by our office on a bike. He said that he had come to camp years ago as a kid, and had a day at camp where he had gotten all of his clothes dirty. They let him into the superintendent's cabin to do laundry, but he didn't have any laundy soap. He used soap from the box above the washing machine, labeled NAZARENUS (our former superintendent) but always felt bad about 'stealing' it. He had come by that day to pay it back. We really didn't know what to ask, so we encouraged him to give whatever he wanted. He gave us a check for $50. We called the former superintendent, and he encouraged us to put the money towards a family wanting to send their children to camp. Immediately, we had the money we needed to help our family in need!

2 Samuel 22:17-20 - He reached down from on high and took hold of me. He drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy. From my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.

This is a song of praise that David sang after the civil war in his country was abolished, and the Philistines were defeated yet again. This is also near the end of his life, so as he looked back, these are some of the awesome thoughts that he had. Do you ever take time to look back, and write your own songs of praise to God. After great victories and conquests, take the time to do that if you can.

A key thought in this passage is that when David was confronted with enemies and challenges, the Lord was his support. How did God support him? Supernaturally, doing miracles. He supported him by destroying his enemies and giving his army favor in battle. He supported him by surrounding him with powerful allies and blessing his work.

God is our support as well. Many times, He will support us supernaturally. Other times, He is moving in the world around us in ways we can't even see. He is giving us favor in ministry, helping our ministries succeed. He is also surrounding us with key people to lean on and have friendship with. All of these things are still the hand of God, though some are more obvious than others. Do you appreciate all the ways that God offers support, or just some? Take time to appreciate all of His support today. Just think, you can be an extension of God's support to someone else in need.

3). Link of the day: Young Victory

A 13 year old just climbed Mount Everest. Don't tell me young people can't accomplish great things! Also, remember it is International Whistler's Week, so whistle while you work today. I am finished a hard trip of working on the go cart track at camp, so you can believe I'll be whistling.

Again, we didn't have a winner from Friday's Trivia. Chelserific gave it a valiant effort, but unfortunately, it wasn't correct again. So the picture trivia will carry over to Friday on this week too.

Last night, my kids and I saw Shrek Forever After. The Pied Piper makes an appearance, and every time he plays his flute he makes people dance uncontrollably. My kids and I have been joking about what songs the Pied Piper would have to play to make each one of us dance.

Can you mention a person in the Bible that was known for dancing, and quote a verse as well?

3). Link of the day: Cleaning Sickness

7 Places you should remember to clean after recovering from an illness. Also, remember that today is National Missing Children's Day. Take some time to pray for the children that are missing and their families as well.

2). Blog Entry:

My family and I enjoy sitting on our patio furniture at night and roasting smores during this time of the year. We've got a nice fire pit and though I'm not a great outdoorsman, I'm very skilled at lighting a fire log.
But the animals impacted our family time! Our 'all weather patio furniture' was torn to shreds. We assumed the tough NE winters, full of snow and wind, had damaged them. But then, one fateful afternoon, my wife caught a squirrel sitting on top of a patio chair, eating the cushions. They might be 'all weather' but they're not 'all animal'.
Nothing is indestructible. Guarantees are not always guaranteed. We should take care and use caution when thinking that something is a sure thing. The only sure thing is our creator God! He is 'all weather' and 'all animal' all at the same time!

3). Link of the day: Stoked

A great book for graduating seniors, which deals with keeping the fire for God alive after high school. Today is also NATIONAL BROTHER DAY, so make sure to tell your bro how much you love him.

* Urgent - we could use more help preparing some improvements on our go cart track at camp. Unless we get more help, it may not be ready in time for camp. This is hard work - building frames, pouring cement, installing new iron rails. Any day from now until June 6th would work and we'll pay for your housing and food. Let me know if interested.

James 2:1-4 - 1My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism. 2Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. 3If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"4have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

We must be careful not to pick favorites in our groups. Sometimes, we want to give special attention to the 'popular' students, the ones that might attract others to come as well. Although this is not bad to recognize that potential, we should give them our best ministry as well. I've seen the opposite happen as well; the 'popular' student shows up and they are completely ignored. We don't water down the ministry for anyone, it should always be our best. Regardless of who they are or what they look like, we need to do our best for God. Often, the student that others have rejected is the most ready to receive Christ. And often, the student that feels the most rejected and alone is the 'popular' teenager, under the surface.

My kids are getting excited for the end of the school year. They are also enjoying the last few weeks because they have plenty of field trips planned. My son Eric is going to take a trip to Lincoln and visit Memorial Stadium. They invited parents to come, but it doesn't look like it's going to work out with my schedule. Kim asked Eric if he'd like me to go, and he said, 'It's OK if he doesn't. I know he's got to go to work and worship God'

Now, I know he actually meant that I sing songs to God all day. If only! But, truthfully, that is what I'm doing all day, worshipping God in all that I do. Good point Eric!

- Rock Solid, the youth ministry at Christ's Place Church in Lincoln, had about 5 students that gave their lives to Christ last week. One of those students had been in the hospital only a week earlier because of an attempted suicide. Gravity, our youth ministry at Glad Tidings Church in Omaha, had about 35 people that committed their lives to Christ last week as well.
- North Central University has an amazing cross country team. They are the national champions for the last 5 years straight.
- I spoke at a Graduation Banquet with Ryan and Rachel Conner in Friend, NE last night. They had about 10 students graduating, 2 foreign exchange students in the mix as well. As the church and students gathered in the new youth building for the message, over 100 people were on hand for the great event. That's almost 1/10th of the town.

Matthew 4:18-22 "As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fisherman. 'Come, follow me' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.' At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him."

Jesus was good at recruiting leaders, something we need to be good at too. First of all, he didn't try to do his work alone, and neither should we. We need to build a team. Second, he actively sought out workers. We need to keep our eyes open and extend initial invitations as we go along. Jesus didn't wait until they were perfect to extend the invite. He brought them along and taught them as they journeyed together. Leaders on our teams will not be perfect. We must bring them along and teach them as we journey together as well.

Extend the invitation! Build a team. Journey together.

Yesterday was a great Mother's Day, though I wasn't a very good son. Yes, we did travel to Omaha for my mom, yes I did call her early on the day to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, yes I did get her a gift of a handheld electronic massager (she wasn't too thrilled) and we did stop by in the afternoon to spend time with her.

But in the morning I found a wonderful song on youtube 'Momma prayed for me'. It was a great song and very appropiate for the day, though a little more Southern Gospel than my usual liking. My wife got a great idea - act like I wrote it and asked the guy in the video to sing it, and then email that to my mom. So, I did.

In church later on, I got a text back from my mom saying, 'Thanks for the song, though you lied'. Woops. I didn't think she'd think I was serious, so it guess it worked like my wife thought!

- Yesterday, I heard the great testimony from Tim Lillard on how he went into the ministry. He was a volunteer youth leader in Rapid City, and he had a dream that his current youth pastor was going to become the DYD and he would then become the youth pastor. He didn't think much of the dream, but later on the youth pastors wife asked Tim's wife if they had ever thought about being youth pastors. Then, later on, the youth pastor asked Tim the same question. He responded, 'well, when are planning on moving to Sioux Falls (the sight of the SD district office)'. After further discussion, he revealed that he was in fact becoming the DYD, and Tim eventually continued God's plan and became a youth pastor himself. Don't neglect the dreams that God gives you! That's another way he chooses to speak to His people.

Matthew 10:1 - Jesus called his twelve disciples to Him and gave them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.

This chapter is all about how Jesus sent the disciples out on their own missions, to spread his gospel around the world. Before he did anything, he gave them the tools and the training they needed to get the job done.

Jesus didn't ask them to do something that they would be incapable of doing. He didn't set them up for failure. He gave them all that they needed so they could be adequate for the ministry He had called them to.

As we recruit and train leaders, we must be careful to give them all of the tools they need as well. It's too easy to assume that they should learn how to do ministry like many of us did, 'on our own'. The District Office is committed to resourcing our people and informing them of all the tools our National Office is provided to our churches and leaders. The connection you make with your leaders and the District Office will help in this process of training and providing tools. See our website for more info on whatever you need: NEAG

Last week, my wife and I had the great opportunity to go the Jr. High Parents Orientation at our sons new middle school for next year. As we came in, we had to find a seat in the cafeteria. I felt like a kid again, looking for someone to sit by, wondering if I had any friends in the room.

The principal went on to explain certain parts of the program for our son next year. It intrigued me, as a youth pastor and someone that has worked a lot with middle school students through the years. Some of his thoughts would be helpful to youth pastors in organizing their strategy for these young teenagers. Here's some of the highlights:

- They wanted students to take ownership of the school. They named the hallways, the football field. They created the orientation video that we saw in our meeting.
- They no longer called the first session of the day homeroom. Instead, they changed it to something that didn't sound like home - primetime.
- He prioritized putting the students work on display. All of the paintings and wall decorations were created or picked out by the students themselves.
- They ask the students each morning if they're having an 'above the line' or 'below the line' day. Above the line would be good, and below the line would be difficult. Giving the students a chance to verbalize that allowed the teacher to be more prepared in how to deal with them throughout the day, and helped the student to feel that the teacher was concerned with how they feel.
