1). Song of the Day: ♫ Jesus Culture - Come Away ♫

2). Blog Entry:
- My family and I had a wonderful holiday weekend with our extended family back home. Unfortunately, my daughter Abby was sick the entire time and we wound up coming home a little early. The night before Thanksgiving, she started having stomach problems, and then the next day, her throat began to hurt. Now I'm taking her into the doctor for a throat culture to insure that she doesn't have strep.
As parents, we always try to figure out how she got sick while everyone else was healthy. Was it a child at school, someone from the tree lighting Wednesday night, maybe she didn't wash her hands in the public bathroom at Borders? We'll never know, but it reminded us how important it is during this holiday season to wash our hands often and stay clean. It also reminded us how much the little things matter, and not just in washing hands. Though sick, we tried to let Abby have the best time ever and we loved being with her during the holidays.

1). Song of the Day: ♫ Chris August - 7x70 ♫

2). Blog Entry:
This past weekend, it was my first weekend in a long time at home without any trips or ministry outside of town. I took advantage of the opportunity to get some work done around the house. I put away all of the lawn decorations and furniture. I took down the trampoline to prepare for the frozen weather. I fixed a rain gutter that had been clogged and washed down some of our outside walls. I hung all of our Christmas lights and raked up the leaves into 16 bags. Needless to say, I was exhausted.
But this morning, I woke up feeling pretty good, just a little sore. I took my kids to school and saw the frozen rain everywhere in Grand Island. The roads were slick and it looked very cold outside. I was very glad I took advantage of doing my outside work over the weekend before it got cold like it was today. Sometimes it's better to look ahead and prepare in advance.

1). Song of the Day: Tobymac - ♫ This Christmas ♫

2). Blog Entry:
- On my way to speak at a Chi Alpha in South Dakota, one of our NE youth pastors called me with a testimony from Eastern Youth Convention. He had brought two athletic students to the event, students that weren't very involved with the youth group. After coming home, they felt like they belonged and immediately got very involved in all of the things the youth group were doing. He said he wished he could come up with a way to make it mandatory for fringe students to go to camps and conventions because it's such a great way to get them involved quickly, and become part of the group.
- I heard a great testimony from Matt and Kristi Kling, our missionaries to Chile. Kristi was just chosen as Global University's director for the entire country. It's the first time a foreign missionary was given an office in the Assemblies of God National Headquarters, and it's one of our NE ministers. Way to go Kristi!

Finally, it's one week from Thanksgiving and one year from the hopeful first day of our Western NE Youth Convention in 2011.

Top 100 NYM Photos of 2010 - #93: Rachel from Columbus, dancing during worship at Camp

1). Song of the Day: ♫ Call out to Him ♫

2). Blog Entry: Yesterday, I had the privilege of preaching at Omaha New Creation Community Church, with Jay and Candace Newland. It was a wonderful morning of ministry with a great church full of young couples and children. I led a short acoustic set of worship and then spoke about being a good example to those around us.
Jay came up near the beginning to welcome the people and do a short devotional with the children. During that time, he became a little tongue-twisted! He accidentally said 'the earth is the Lord' (I think he meant Lord's) and called attention to the book of Ecclesiastics (I think he meant Ecclesiastes) I teased him about it later on, but it made me much more comfortable coming in as the outside speaker.
Sometimes, our little mistakes can go a long way in easing the tension in those around us. Sometimes, it's perfect to not be perfect.

Thursday - Testimonies

The TOP 100 NYM PHOTOS of 2010 will begin tomorrow. Here's honorable mention #101 - Nolan, our worship artist, at Eastern Youth Convention. See all the honorable mention photos here

1). Song of the Day: This is Home by Jon Foreman

2). Blog Entry:
- At Eastern Youth Convention, our speaker Tony Cruz stepped off the platform and spoke directly to a young man. Having had Tony speak at some of our events before, I'd never seen him do that. But he felt God telling him to tell this young man that God had a call on his life to be great in His kingdom, God had a strong purpose for Him in life. What Tony didn't know is that this young man is from Fairbury. The youth pastor there told me that he had been coming off and on to church for some time, but just before convention, he was in a major car accident. He walked away unscathed, but only by God's grace, because he really should have been seriously injured. It got his attention, and then God got his attention even more at convention!
- Pastor Dwight, our district Superintendent, gave a great report yesterday. Over the past three days he had held 10 district affiliated board meetings. These are at churches that have traditionally struggled to retain members and pastors. Nine of the 10 churches have experienced growth, some in large percentages, and they all have started saving money in their bank accounts, something unheard of in years past.

3). Ministry of the Day: Youtube Dance Video - At both conventions, we set up some youth alive banners and encouraged students to LIVE OUT LOUD by dancing in front of them. This is the video collaboration of those moments.

4). Link of the Day: I am Second - a movement to kickstart people in living for God above living for themselves

5). Quote of the Day: 'You can learn as much from a bad mentor as from a good mentor' (George O. Wood)

6). Miscellaneous: Today is Veteran's Day - make sure to let the military personnel in your life know how much you appreciate them, and pray for our military stationed overseas and in harms way. It's also Karen Libby's birthday (senior pastors wife in West Point). Today is also National Origami Day. Finally, Washington became the 42nd state in the USA in 1889.

2). Blog Entry: Ways to Improve Confidence (taken from an article online here)

As leaders, we are constantly in situations that demand our excellence. We are in the spotlight for others to see, to watch, to observe, to opinionate, and to critique. It can be a very nervewracking place to be, constantly having to meet people's expectations. Here's some creative ways to improve your confidence:

1. Pick something in the room that becomes your anchor (on eye level if possible) When nervous, look at the spot, refocus, and then resume
2. Improve your posture with duck tape (check out the website for more details)
3. Carry a flask of listerine for good breath
4. Go for a 30 minute fast walk three times a week
5. Memorize new people's eye color with one extra adjective
6. Keep a chamomile tea bag in your wallet, to relax
7. Introduce yourself as 'Hi, I'm (Your Name)" and that's it
8. Update yourself on recent news items to start discussions
9. Take 5 deep breaths and then begin
10. When in doubt, ask a question

Monday - Life Lessons

Convention this weekend was awesome!

1). Song of the Day: My favorite song from convention this weekend - ♫ More than Anything ♫

2). Blog Entry: We had an incredible Eastern Convention this past weekend. I was so happy that the theme VUVUZELA went over so well. When I first introduced it, I had many people that were concerned. At first, they didn't know what it meant, and then they thought that the idea of this 'loud toy' wasn't going to go over very well. But we were able to sell most of them, and the sound of the VUVUZELA's during convention was triumphant, to say the least. Also, what a great thing to have in our lives now to remind us to LIVE OUT LOUD for Jesus! Don't be afraid to take a risk and try something great for God. If you'd still like to get a VUVUZELA, we have a few more - message me here.

3). Ministry of the Day: Tony Cruz - here is our speakers website, so you can continue to interact with him and pray for his ministry.

Friday - Eastern Convention

Though one day late, I wanted to quickly update you on our status. The blog will begin again on Monday. We had a great time at convention and pictures and videos will be uploaded soon.

See ya on Monday!

1). Song of the Day: Top Christian Songs of the Week #44 - Runaway City, Daybreak

2). Blog Entry: A youth leader from Western, NE told me a testimony about western convention. She brought a bunch of students from the youth center, who weren't too involved in the church, because most of her regulars had other activities they had to go to. During services, these visiting students all rushed to the altars and she said she overheard them praying for their moms. It was a huge step forward because these students used to be known as 'bad news'.

3). Ministry of the Day: Orphans Cry - This is a band led by a former Master's Commission student of mine. They just put out a new CD and they will be with us for worship on the Eastern District Tour next year. Check out their facebook page here

Wednesday - Leader's Corner

Worship at Western Youth Convention. Eastern Youth Convention is only 2 days away! Check it out here - there's still time to get in

1). Song of the Day: Top Christian Songs of the Week #43 - Flyleaf, Arise

2). Blog Entry: I recently read a great article in a current Time Magazine about caring for children with mental disorders. Though something that must be addressed with great care, it is so important to catch these issues when they are young because, 'According to the National Academy of Sciences, every dollar spent by Medicaid or other public-health programs on prevention of mental illness among kids may be paid back as much as 28 times over the course of a lifetime in disability benefits never claimed, adult psychiatric care never needed and, in some cases, crimes never committed.' (Jeffrey Kluger)
Here are six important steps to consider for youth leaders working with students battling mental disorders:
A. Reach out to the parents
B. Provide clear, simple directions
C. Plan for safety
D. Provide alternate activities for those needing more sensory inputs
E. Praise them regularly within their gifts
F. Remember to pray for guidance

3) Ministry of the Day: 7 Project in Exeter-Milligan - check out the photos from this awesome event last week.

Monday - Life Lessons

Taleah Gill singing at the Western Youth Convention. Eastern Youth Convention is only 4 days away. Check it out here!

1). Song of the Day: Decemberadio - Gasoline

2). Blog Entry:

Last week, during our 7 Project School Assemblies at Exeter-Milligan, Jay Warriner was presenting a session about self-respect. He had a moment where he mentions Murphy's Law (to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction) and he decided to have some fun and see if the Middle Schoolers knew of it. He asked them what it was, and one of the teachers spoke up and asked Jay, 'which one, there's three of them?'

Jay quickly began quoting the first line, and the students filled in the rest. It was a good thing he did that because he, like the rest of us, had no clue what the other two laws were. Gladly, he was able to get out of the situation without revealing his lack of knowledge of the other laws.

Be careful when you bring something up in front of people, especially if you ask for crowd participation, because you never know what may happen.

3). Ministry of the Day: His Story - the ministry behind the Book of Hope and other outreach opportunities

4). Link of the Day: Allergy Eats - Find restaurants in your area that will help you with your specific allergy needs

5). Quote of the Day: 'Examine as you Endure' (Tim Dilena, District Council Speaker '10)

6). Miscellaneous: Today is the beginning of November, which is also Military Family Appreciation Month. It is also National Authors Day (a great day to start that book you've always dreamed of writing). Finally, it is Mark Oberbeck's Birthday (senior pastor of Grand Island Northridge, and the former DYD/CE Director of Iowa)
