- This past weekend Nate Krizek was married. He is the youth and young adult pastor for New Life Church in Kearney, NE. I was speaking on the phone earlier in the week with our college ministries leader in Lincoln. Nate had several students that left Kearney for Lincoln to attend UNL this fall. This college leader told me that Nate deserved high praise - he personally came down and took all of his students to the college ministry to acclimate them with the group and introduce them to the leaders. That's taking the 'Youth to college' handoff to a new level. Way to go Nate!

1). Song of the Day: Burlap to Cashmere - ♫ The Other Country ♫

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
- Last week, we had a dinner get together with some friends on Sunday night. We asked everyone where they had spent the afternoon the day before for the Husker game. Everyone was watching it by themselves at their homes.
- Yesterday, after church my daughter and I ran to Walmart to grab some groceries for the week. At the checkout line, behind us and at the line next to us were families we had interacted with at church just a few minutes before.
- Having friends and pursuing relationships isn't as hard as we make it. Just finding those around us doing the same things we are doing and choosing to do them together can go a long way in building connections that last a lifetime. Monday - Life Lessons

1). Song of the Day: Nathan Tasker - ♫ Love is the Compass ♫

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
- Yesterday in my Sunday School class, we were discussing why the Bible is true. At one point, the teacher asked a question off the script, 'How many authors wrote the Bible?' Now, of course I immediately thought one (God) but I knew he was asking for the various authors inspired by God to write the several books contained within. A few guesses came out, and then the teacher responded, '40. I know that because of JBQ'
- JBQ stands for Junior Bible Quiz, a program for elementary students where they learn certain facts and principles from the Bible. It is a program which I oversee for our district in Nebraska. I was amazed to see this older teacher still pulling out facts which he learned at a young age. The more we learn and apply to our lives when we are young, the better we will be later in life because of those lessons learned.

Wednesday - Leaders Corner

1). Song of the Day: Ashes Remain - ♫ Come Alive ♫

2). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner
- Having just finished the bike ride, I wanted to point out the leadership of Kelvin Nygren, our leader profile from last week. He has been on all 6 Missions Bike Rides. We have used his church vehicle at least twice. He has personally invited and brought about 5 to 6 extra riders throughout the years. He brings his tool kit and is involved in every bike maintenance issue, most not his own. He brought an extra bike that other riders could ride in case their own bike became unusable. He took many pictures and has put together movie slideshows from previous years. He helped us plot our course through Omaha, and allowed his church to host our finish line.
- What a friend, support, leader! Notice, I didn't say he was the fastest rider everyday (though he probably could have been). I didn't say he was always the funniest (look at some of Rob Conner's comments on facebook - HILARIOUS). I didn't say he raised the most money (Kent Anderson is now over $6,000!) All of the things mentioned had a simple theme - SERVING. Kelvin and I have had several conversations where he has asked to help in any way. He backed it up with actions, and most of them without my request beforehand.
- True leaders know how to serve, and how to find things to help with without being asked. In what ways can you step up your service and help your organization be the best it can be?

Monday - Life Lessons

1). Song of the Day: Family Force 5 - ♫ Get On Outta Here ♫

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
- Yesterday, we finished our Border to Border Missions Bike Ride in Downtown Omaha. After arriving at the state line (stretched across a bridge over the Missouri River), we finished close to 500 miles, and all for STL and BGMC.
- The last stretch as we approached Omaha was one of the toughest of the week. It was quite hilly and the traffic was busy. When approaching the hills, it's important to learn this lesson - pedal through the hill. Many people will get to the top and then stop pedaling, taking a break. But when that happens, you lose all momentum. Many times you won't reach the crest of the hill and have to work much harder to get past the last small incline. Even if you do, your speed going downhill will not be what it could have been if you had continued pedaling on top. This would give you plenty of speed to power you up the next hill on your route.
- When reaching the hills of our lives, don't just reach for the top. Reach for the hill on the other side! Keep pedaling through.

Wednesday - Leaders Corner

1). Song of the Day: Downhere - ♫ Rest ♫

2). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner
- On the Bike ride, we will go 75 miles today from Big Springs to North Platte. We've had a great time getting to know the riders better. David Stitt, Assembly of God pastor from Hastings, has been a joy. Though one of our older riders, he is very strong and finished every mile so far. He is also a delight to ride with. His stories and thoughts on different subjects are very interesting. I really like him.
- Isn't that how it should be? Shouldn't we strive to be likeable people? The Bible says that even sinners and evil people enjoying hanging out with Jesus. We know that He didn't 'pull any punches' with his thoughts on unholiness. And yet they still liked being around him, though they knew they weren't living at His standards. He must have been a very likeable Man.
- Too many times, leaders become isolated and stop trying to be 'nice' to people just to be a friend. Unless it's a ministry function, we clam up and leave them alone. Strive today to have fun, tell jokes, laugh a lot, and be a likeable person, just like Jesus.

Monday - Life Lessons

1). Song of the Day: Planetshakers - ♫ Come to Jesus ♫

2). Life Lessons: Broken Spokes
- Today is the official first day of NE Missions Border to Border Bike Ride. (In fact, the transport vehicle just left it's first stop in Omaha, our finish line!) I've been riding my bike constantly, in training. It's been a struggle though because every few days, I seemed to break a spoke on my back tire. This will cause the tire to be out of balance, wiggle sporadically while you pedal down the road, and rub on your brakes, causing extreme friction. That is not something you want when you are riding a bike on average 75 miles a day.
- I took the bike in several times to get the broken spokes fixed, only to have them break again in a few days. Finally, I asked the bike shop in Kearney, the Bike Shed, if they had a better solution. They put a brand new rim on my back tire, and since then, things have been great.
- When things in our life break down, it's good for us to work on fixing them. Sometimes the best fix is to stop and start over. This only applies to things that morally can be stopped, and after repeated attempts to fix it on our own have stalled.
