2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Yesterday morning, my Father-in-Law Bob Whearty went home to heaven. My wife and mother-in-law were able to be with him as he passed from this life to the next. That morning, I was driving to a city to minister in a church service, and spending time in the car praying for Bob. I started thinking about the Old Testament fathers that would give a blessing to their sons before they passed away. I prayed that God would pass along the great traits of my Father-in-Law to me; traits like a strong commitment to his family, a fighter in tough times, someone that earned the respect of others, a man deeply committed to prayer. We're anxious to see our family and friends this week as we celebrate and honor the life of Bob Whearty.

1). Song of the Day: Carson Parks - ♫ All you gotta do is Love ♫

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
Last week was our annual District Council for ministers in Nebraska. We convened in Grand Island and the major order of business was the election of our main leader. On the first day of business, the voting took many different twists and turns and at the end of the day we still didn't have an election. Several people were frustrated and concerned that we might have abandoned the rules of our process. The next morning, one of our former leaders was nominated to oversee the proceedings. The system was started over and moved along as it should, and we had an election. This leader didn't know that he was going to be called upon to run the meeting, but he did with strength and dignity. God asks us to be ready in season and out of season, and this was a great example of how to do just that.

Today, I have the privilege of preaching at our morning session in our Nebraska District Council, the annual gathering for Assemblies of God Ministers. I'll be using the passage from 1 Corinthians 4:14-21, with some simple points on how to work as a good team when they are people that don't want to work as a team...
      1. Explain your point of view - communication goes a long way in keeping us from divisions
      2. Check your motives - make sure you are reaching out for the right reasons
      3. Do you job - sometimes they don't want to cooperate because you haven't been faithful in your role
      4. Challenge them - be a strong leader and be direct, people are attracted to strength
      5. Walk Beside them - great leaders don't just lead from the front, but side by side as well

I visited a church in Crete, NE yesterday. After the service, I met a man that had gone to Men's Retreat 5 or 6 times over the last many years. 2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
Easter Weekend, we went to Omaha to meet up with my in-laws and other family coming in from Toledo, OH. For Sunday morning services, we wanted to try something different so we went to a city-wide service at the city auditorium downtown, hosted by a local Lutheran church. There were hundreds of people, a big environment, amazing light show, and professional video effects. Though an amazing convention feel, my son mentioned something to me. Having been in mostly Pentecostal worship settings, he didn't notice the lights and special effects as much; what stuck out to him was how people didn't seem to get into the worship as much as he was used to. I helped him understand that they may mean it just as much even though it looks different. What a great lesson to learn at a young age! How I wish that more people would have learned that earlier on, to stay clear of 'worship fights' later on.
