2). Leaders Corner - Basic Message Length Ideas
This past February, our youth pastors were encouraged to read a book together through our Facebook group, Speaking to Teenagers by Doug Fields. In the book, he talks about several great processes for helping us become better communicators to students. One thing that is always brought up when we talk about preaching with young people is how long you should speak. Here are some basic rules of thumb from his perspective:

1. Remember, your message isn't the only element of the program or the only way they hear from God.
2. Remember, just because they're there doesn't mean they're listening
3. Every audience had physical limitations, especially young people.
4. Respect them just like you want them to respect you

1). Song of the Day: Phillips, Craig and Dean - ♫ Great Great God ♫

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
     - Most days when I'm home, I start off the day by heading to my local YMCA. They recently remodeled the closest branch to my home. A few years back they opened it with a special metalic card access, opening the locked door without an employee there. It cost us a little extra to get the card, but it was a great perk. Now, with the new branch, they've moved back to the regular identity cards they give out to every member. It's been a couple years since I used that I can't locate it, so I've been going in with my metallic card and having to be entered in manually by the employee on hand. I wish they would have told us that we'd need that card when they made the changes, but recently an employee told me 'don't throw away the metallic card yet - they might go back to them.'. Again, where's the communication?
      - I still support the YMCA and I know we all make mistakes in communication from time to time, but we must strive to properly communicate as much as we can to those who are looking to us for direction so as to keep them informed of upcoming changes.

Recently my Mother-In-Law got a new laptop with Windows 8 on it. I helped her get it setup after the tech support did some when she first bought it. Having been with a Mac the last several years, it was quite a learning curve. There were things that I tried to figure out, taking a long time and great scrutiny, to find out that it was a simple push of a key on the keyboard. Most of the dilemnas I ran into were solved by a simple keystroke. Sometimes the hardest challenges are answered with the easiest solutions.

     - This past weekend was the funeral of my Father-in-law. It was a tough time, but also a time to remember that we will see him again in heaven one day. What a wonderful day that will be. He was a retired Chief Master Sargent in the military and the graveside ceremony was incredible. The honor guard transported him from the hearse. They folded up a flag in the proper manner and then shot 3 shots into the air. They played the TAPS song and then presented the flag to my Mother-in-law, and all the while a bagpipe was playing in the background in honor of his Irish heritage. It was an incredible experience I will never forget. What a way to remember a man of honor. Many of the honor guard were even moved with emotion while observing the memorable event.
