For Wednesday

1). Song of the Day: Skillet - Not Gonna Die

2). Leaders Corner
Acts 15 shows a time when the early church needed to resolve a problem. We all have disagreements in our churches and we need to learn to figure them out in a healthy way. Here's a guideline found in this chapter than can direct us accordingly...

5. Separate the major issues from the minor issues

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: JJ Weeks Band - Let Them See You

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
Recently I was in a meeting of key leaders from all across Nebraska. We were having a devotional time and my friend Randy was called on to read John 13:21, which reads 'After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, “Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.”' Though, when he first read it he accidentally said the word 'terrified' instead of 'testified'. Obviously, it was a quick mistake that was immediately remedied, but we laughed at the implications. It showed how easy it is for people to intentionally twist the Word of God to meet their own needs just be changing one simple word. We must be careful to keep God's Word at all levels and have integrity when interpreting what God means and living it out.

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: Royal - Praise Him

2). Leaders Corner - Messy Churches
In Youth and Kids Ministries, often we are working in less than desirable environments. It's not because ministry to young people isn't a priority, but many times it's because our ministries tend to have the most impact on a building and meeting space. Regardless, we must do all we can to make our space have a pleasant appearance, and here's why:

Priorities communicated in messy churches (according to Andy Stanley, Deep and Wide)
1. We aren't expecting guests
2. What we do here is not that important
3. We expect somebody to clean up after us
4. We don't take pride in our church

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: Kutless - You Alone

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Teamwork
Have you ever used a Zip Line before. Two weeks ago I was able to be the guest speaker at a retreat  at Timberlake Ranch Camp. They have a Ropes Course and after I scaled a few telephone poles and walked across some ropes and wires, the last task was to zip down the line back to the ground. I hooked up my safety carabiners and away I went - it was a blast. We've been looking for a way to try to have a zip line at a future event. After meeting with our CE Committee and talking about kids ministries, we discovered that one of our Children's Pastor's had much of the equipment having used a zip line for a sermon illustration earlier this year. We will have access to his equipment and save hundreds of dollars and hopefully have a great addition to a future NYM activity, all because our district is a strong network when we work together as a team.

2). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Getting Seekers Involved
Author Andy Stanley, in his book Deep and Wide, mentioned that they help plug Seekers into servant positions in his church. - guest services
- service projects
- audio/visual engineers

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: Natalie Grant - Closer to Your Heart

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
This past weekend I had the privilege of speaking at a retreat in Central Nebraska with two Youth Ministries from Omaha. On Saturday, we had a blast on a High Ropes Course and Laser Tag. We also walked through an Obstacle Course laced throughout woods and a pond named Armageddon Island. At one point, there is a rope swing over a small pond. Several people tried it successfully, but there were others who grabbed the rope and stood there thinking about what to do. As they stood, almost all of them began to lean forward and eventually found themselves sinking into the water and getting wet. Sometimes, we overthink things. It's important to be cautious and thoughtful, but to a point; eventually we have to step out from where we are, take a chance, and move on.

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: Lastwatch - Leave a Light On

2). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Get Together
Last week, I had the privilege of joining our new Superintendent in NE at the Omaha Sectional Gatherings. This was his first chance to meet with the pastors in the sections where I was once a youth pastor before I became the NE DYD. We had a great time coming together and hearing from our new leader express his heart and vision for our district. I reconnected with several leaders I hadn't seen in some time and I also met some new leaders along the way. It was a great chance to reconnect and I can't wait to do it again. We need to prioritize coming together for fun, relationship, and support as we strive to reach Nebraska for Jesus.

NYM Update

1). Song of the Day: Switchfoot - Love Alone is Worth the Fight

2). Leaders Corner - Staying Humble
One of the challenges all leaders face is the task to stay humble. As leaders, we are often in situations where the attention is on us and we receive the admiration and praise of others. Here are some signs that we've allowed it to go too far and have become too prideful in our own leadership and abilities (from the book The Catalyst Leader):

1. You need an entourage wherever you travel
2. You're unreachable in common communication avenues
3. You only make time for those who can do something for you
4. You speak more than you listen
5. You quit laughing at yourself (even if others are)
6. You feel some jobs are beneath you
7. No ones work is good enough except your own
