1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Leader's Vocabulary
Leadership is a privilege and a responsibility. When God calls us to be leaders, we must take it seriously and do all we can to live up to His expectations. Leaders lead! They do this by setting a good example and directing others in the way to go. We direct with our voice, and the words that we use are very important. They show where our true motives may come from. If we are constantly bossing people around and criticizing how things are being done the wrong way, that's not good leadership. HERE is a list of 17 things that every successful leader says every day, and it would be good for us to try to pick a few of these and put them in our daily speech as well...

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Double Check
This past weekend I had the chance to be on the worship team for my local church in Grand Island, NE. At the beginning of the week I had glanced at the list and thought I saw that I was playing drums. I had mentioned that a few times thoughout the week and went in on Sunday morning ready to play. When I arrived I saw the other drummer for our church there as well. I asked the worship leader if I was scheduled for drums, and he mentioned that I was playing acoustic guitar. I went to look at my schedule again and saw that I had read it wrong. I ran home, grabbed my guitar, and came back, causing practice to go about 10 minutes late. I wish I would have double checked to make sure I was right. LIFE LESSON - Double Check and and make sure.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Tests
James 1:3 tells us to consider it joy when we face trials and temptations of many kinds because it develops our faith. This is a challenging thing to do and to teach. Our goal isn't to shield our students from all trials but rather to lead them through it so they can become stronger and mature. A great way of making sure your students are tested is to move them forward with reaching out to their friends at school. When they stand up for Christ at school, it makes their faith real and may bring on persecution of sorts. If we want our students to be able to defend their faith, then they'll have to be in situations where they'll need to actually do it as well. Many of us pray for our students to grow in Christ; one of the greatest ways to see growth is to help them step up and reach out on their campus as Campus Missionaries. Check out this valuable program HERE.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - God's Plan
Last week I had the chance to visit Omaha Glad Tidings Youth Ministry - Gravity Youth Church - on Wednesday night. It was a wonderful group and I hadn't had a chance to be there for a couple years. I was in town over the weekend for a Youth Pastors Retreat and Pastor Jason invited me to attend the youth service the night before it started. I was going to do a quick 10 minute presentation and then enjoy their student interns preach to finish out the night. As I arrived I began to mingle with different people I knew and introduce myself to random teens. Surprisingly, as I turned around for another greeting, I saw my nephew Nik. We don't see each other often so I just assumed that he had been coming to the youth group for a long time. But I found out that this was her very first visit to the group on a Wednesday night, amazingly the same night that I came to visit by chance. LIFE LESSON - God is always working behind the scenes, putting things together to make us as effective as possible in building His Kingdom.

Today is my kids' first day of school this new school year. I've been praying that they have the best year ever! Several students around our state our going back to school around this same time and it's a great time to focus on a few things in our ministries: 1) Prayer - encourage them to pray for the year, for their school and teachers, for their friends, etc. 2) Attitudes - encourage them to be positive, to give their best, to study and work hard with all they are asked to do. 3) Righteousness - encourage them to stand up for their beliefs and abstain from sinful temptations around them 4) Outreach - help them develop a heart for the salvation of their friends and classmates, and finally 5) Leadership - inspire them to try to live and act in a way that others will be drawn to them as they live on fire for God. 1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Watching
The other day I had the chance to speak at a church across the state. As I was preparing on Sunday morning, I had one last stop to get gas for my car before hitting the interstate. I had a few minutes so I was cutting it close. I put both of my district credit cards into the machine by the pump but neither would work, so I had to rush inside and give my card to the attendant. I wasn't rude, but I also wasn't that nice, just hurried in my approach with him. After I filled up and came back in, he asked me if I was going to church at Abundant Life, one of our church's across town. At that moment I realized that I had my suit on (somewhat normal church apparel) and he recognized me. He mentioned that he grew up going to camps. We chatted for a bit and then I took off, embarrassed that I might have been in too big of hurry while inconvenienced to treat someone with the respect they deserve. LIFE LESSON - Someone's always watching. We can't let the little inconveniences of out lives make us act in ways that inconvenience others.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Supporters
Last week I had the privilege of attending an outdoor Christian Festival called EXCLAIM, in Toledo, OH. The headline bands were Tenth Avenue North and For King and Country. As we arrived on sight, it appeared that the bands had went ahead of schedule because our favorite band was already well into their planned set. We later discovered that Tenth Avenue North had actually come out early because of a possible tornado watch moving into the area later that afternoon. Though it was a free concert, many people were disappointed that they had missed the headline band. So, when Tenth Avenue caught wind of the concerns, they came back out to the stage under heavy dark clouds and performed again! God kept the rain away and we were able to enjoy the show in its fullness. What a great act from the bands, performing twice because their fans wanted to see them. LIFE LESSON - Don't be afraid to adjust your schedule and increase your commitment to those who love you and support you.
