1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
This past weekend my family and I had the chance to visit a pumpkin patch. We took a hayride with other guests to a field where our kids each picked out a pumpkin for the fall season. As we stood in line to get back on the tractor to ride back to the main site, a group of high schoolers stood in front of us with a HUGE pumpkin. It took four of them just to keep it off the ground. One of my neighbors in line mentioned to me what a horrible choice that was for them financially. Later on, I ran into the same man at a different location on the grounds and he said that he saw them purchase the pumpkin. It was $37. My 3 pumpkins for my kids were only $20. LIFE LESSON - Bigger isn't always better.

1). Blog Entry: Praying Students
Today is the National See You At The Pole day. This is a day that many students will gather early around their flag poles to pray for their friends and their schools. It's a powerful movement that has been sustained for several years, yet it is still just one day. What if we were able to mobilize students to pray regularly each month, each week, and each day of the year? The Assemblies of God 7:14 prayer app challenges people to pray daily, based on an important verse in 2 Chronicles. A map shows were people have prayed, and you can set up your own prayer groups and lists for churches and youth ministries. Check it out at the ministry of the day below.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Testimony
This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending a Children's Leaders Training at River of Life church in Scottsbluff, NE. Faith and Dennis Tyson lead the event, with help from our statewide leadership team. Faith opened the meeting with an inspirational discussion about kids ministry, and she had her husband Dennis share his life story. He talked of growing up very poor, once not being able to attend church simply because he didn't own a pair of shoes. God saved his family, and he became a college president, his brother a bank president, and his sister a pastor's wife. This family of meager beginnings became something great because of Christ. LIFE LESSON - God can do anything with anyone!

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Outside Perspective
Tonight I will have a chance to go to western NE and be with a church to help assess their Youth Ministry. They've already had a few key people fill out some ministry surveys to give me more information with which to assess their ministry this evening. It wasn't too easy - it's hard to honestly look in the mirror and realize where we really are. Sometimes we like to project an image of perfection that may not be true of who we and and ministries really are. But without an outside perspective, we may have blind spots that we are unaware of which hurt our efforts to minister in our areas. Who do you have that can help speak into your life and ministry like this? Can you be completely honest with them, and can they do the same for you?

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - The way we think
Yesterday in church, our pastor showed an employee training video from Chic Fil A. It showed several people in one of their restaurants and it gave us the inside story into what was going on in each of their lives. It was very touching and moving, until the last image showed a child hugging someone in one of their cow costumes. I had the humorous thought that they should have also given us the inside scoop of the cow's backstory as well. Later, at lunch with several people from our church, I discovered that many of them had the same humorous thought. LIFE LESSON - Everyone likes to laugh and we are wired to find the humorous things around us to lighten our experience.

1). Blog Entry: Leader's Corner - Undesirables
Last week we had our Missions Bike Ride. This is an annual event where riders ride several miles across the state to raise funds for Speed the Light. It truly is a great experience but much work has to go into it to make it the best it can be. Procuring donations from family and friends, taking time off work, bike maintenance, training rides, health plans, support staff, etc. We've learned a lot of lessons through the years and we have a good idea of what it takes to get the job done. Some of these tasks are less desirable than others, but often the most undesirable tasks can be the most effective in improving the experience. Are there undesirable tasks that you must do as a Youth/Children's Worker that are also most effective in improving our efforts to reach our cities and communities? We must make sure we prioritize our time and finish the right tasks we should be focused on, even if they aren't the exciting for us to do.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - The Wind
Last week was our annual Missions Bike Ride. Several bike riders joined me in riding hundreds of miles across the Omaha area, raising funds for STL. On one particular day, we were riding into Springfield, NE and it was probably the moment we were at our fastest. We were zipping up and down hills and reaching the highest MPH's of the week. We stopped at a Casey's Gas Station to turn around and come back toward Omaha, feeling great. When we got back to our hotel after that ride back in, we were the most tired we had been for the week. It was because we had the wind at our backs on our way into Springfield, but when we turned around we had to face it head on. It felt great to have it at our backs, not so great to work against it. LIFE LESSON - Going with the wind is always easier than working against it.

There are many issues facing our teenagers today when it comes to ethics and morality. With the emergence of Social Media and the advancement of technology, more opportunities are available at their fingertips than ever before. But some of the temptations are the same today as they were years ago. And that seems to be the case with the issue of alcohol. Some Christians don't have a problem with drinking alcohol or discouraging it from others. But this could be a huge mistake with those working near students, especially college aged.
