1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Friends
Yesterday, I had the chance to travel for a business trip. Normally, it is several hours on my own praying, listening to music, and trying to find other non-distracting ways to make the time go faster. But the first couple hours, I had the privilege of a companion; I was taking my mother-in-law back to her home in the Omaha area. A usual 135 minute trip seemed to fly by as we were talking and discussing things the entire way. Time flew by when I had someone with me to talk and dialogue together. LIFE LESSON - A friend can always help make the journey more enjoyable.

Our Youth Pastors suggested book of the month(s) to start the year is 'Building a Youth Ministry that Builds Disciples'. The author Duffy Robbins is a Youth Minister and College Professor from the Philadelphia area. He lists 6 different levels of spiritual activity that are active in most every Youth Group across the nation. It's important for us to think about each student in our ministry and see where they are at on the list, to help them move forward in their relationship with God. Here's the list:
     1. Pool of Humanity - All of the students in your mission field and community
     2. Come - All students that visit, and attend but don't get involved very much.
     3. Grow - Teens that begin to respond to some spiritual challenges and start making commitments
     4. Disciple - Teens that start to manage their own spiritual disciplines and take initiative
     5. Develop - Teens that begin accepting servant roles in the ministry and start doing things to help
                          others.
     6. Multiplier - Teens that start leading others to Christ and helping them to the Grow level as well

1). Blog Entry: Make the most of it
This past weekend was a tough one for my family; our dog Buddy died after 10 great years with us. I was able to be with him in those last moments this Saturday and it was shocking how quickly it happened. As he went away, I was so grateful for all the fun moments and memories we had together with him, catalogued in several pictures through the years. On Sunday morning, doing my devotions before heading out to worship practice, I prayed a prayer that I pray just about every morning, 'Thank you God for a chance to live today...' Then I stopped and thought about what I said, and it meant just a little bit more to me in that moment. LIFE LESSON - Make the most of every opportunity that God brings your way today.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Sharing Resources
This past weekend we had another Junior Bible Quiz Meet in Bellevue at BCC. It was a wonderful event with several churches on hand and more than 120 people cheering our young people on in their memorization of the word. To help with the event, all of our participating churches are encouraged to bring their Quiz Boxes with them, so we can have enough for each of our individual Quiz Rooms. One of churches, at registration, suddenly remembered that they had forgotten their Quiz Boxes. The Children's Pastor for BCC was with me and after overhearing it, she offered two Quiz Boxes that BCC had but we're not using. We took them into the rooms and were able to finish the event without a problem. It was a great act of sharing, and it made me wonder... 1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Development
This past weekend, I was looking on my Facebook feed, and I saw a picture of a church in our district, their worship team preparing for Sunday morning. It was great to see them faithfully serving. As I looked closer I saw that several of the key members were the same ones that I've seen in those positions over the last decade. The thought occurred to me: 'Who will step up and take their place when they leave?'
Our upcoming Student Summit Event involved Fine Arts, which helps students discover their gifts, develop them in the church, and deploy them for ministry in the world. Fine Arts can be the tool to help them discover the gifts, but they must be given opportunity to develop them in our churches. This will never happen if the same people alway do the same thing year after year after year. We must begin to develop a system for working new people and young people into the gifted roles of ministry in our churches: otherwise, when it's time for change we won't be ready and we'll have to take a significant step back in our momentum moving forward.
Consider the snapshot of your worship team from this last Sunday. Any new faces, any young people in development, any signs of developing new people in new roles?

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Plan Ahead
My family and I arrived home late this weekend from a New Year's Trip to Ohio to visit family. We had a great time, and we were able to be there to celebrate a Big 10 win over Alabama and a trip to the National Championship of College Football (Ohio State). As we were driving around for various events, my brother-in-law noticed that one of my headlights was out. The next morning we got up early to go to Auto Zone and get the needed light. Then we returned to the house and bundled up to go outside and replace it. As we opened the hood, we saw that it was a much more intricate process and one that we wouldn't be able to do very easily. I wish I would've looked under the hood before I bought the light. LIFE LESSON - Plan ahead to know what you're getting into.
