1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner
These past two weeks, I have had the chance to travel with our Superintendent to each section of our great state. We've helped the pastors in the various areas nominate one of their own to represent them as a Presbyter on a statewide leadership team. We've also walked through various policies and procedures pertaining to our pastors in the Assemblies of God, including talk about credentials, morality, networking, and more. Often we will do two meetings a day; a lunch in one section and then a few hours drive to another section that evening. We've met in various churches, fellowship halls, classrooms and sanctuaries. We've had groups at tables facing each other, in rows, one long table, and several small ones. We've had coffee and tea, small snacks, full meals, and desserts galore. No matter where we went though, one thing remained the same - the great testimony of God's grace carrying Pastors in the work of building God's Kingdom. The successes celebrated, the questions revealed, the discussions that ensued were all so helpful and encouraging to those that made time to be there. But I couldn't help but think about those that couldn't make it and how disappointing it was that they couldn't enjoy the wealth of relationship like the rest of us. It's hard to take several trips across the state over several hours multiple times every year. But surely we can drive a short distance to meet with like minded pastors who are facing the same situations that we encounter every day. What a resource we have when we make time for each other.

This past weekend was my daughter Abby's Bday. In celebration, we went to dinner at a local Japanese Steakhouse, Fuji's. This is a place where you sit around a hot stove and a Japanese chef comes out and prepares your food in front of you, along with some showmanship. Our chef came to our table and began the fun. About halfway through his performance, he leans into me and asks, 'Excuse me sir, did I see you at the YMCA gym this morning?' It caught me off guard, but in fact I had gone to workout. He must have recognized me and just took the opportunity to check it out.

This past Monday I blogged about how I looked up a Live Event on my Youversion Bible app from my iPhone. This is a great idea for Youth Ministries to start to do as well. Upload your notes to the app, as well as several fun and enticing promotional pieces to help people in the area find out more about your group. When I was looking it up this past Sunday, I found a note from a Lutheran pastor across town about the important steps of confessing our sins to each other for accountability. 1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
My church weaves the notes from the Pastor's Message as a Live Event in coordination with the Youversion Bible App for my iPhone. It's pretty impressive. Each Sunday I can look up Live Events, and it will show me those in my area. There are several other churches in our state that use the app, and I was scrolling through some of the other notes from pastors at different churches. Most were similar to ours, with mostly Bible verses and a few main points. But then I found one from a church that was on the same block of the old house where we used to live. I had visited their location once and I didn't find the message very inspiring or challenging. But the notes were very in depth and good. There were a couple good areas where I even took a snapshot of the screen so I could remember what I read. I'd always thought of that church in an average light, but the notes from that Sunday challenged me greatly. LIFE LESSON - One bad message doesn't make for a bad church. God can speak to us through anyone anywhere anytime.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner
Culture is constantly changing around us. So many major issues are impacting our students lives and their spiritual well-being. As youth and children's leaders, it is difficult for us to 'keep up'. We need to be constantly striving to understand the current cultural trends around us, while furthering our education and skills that prepare us to teach our students how to adapt. Here's some thoughts from the Youth Professor of North Central University to help us in this effort:
How do we integrate faith into a culture that is changing so quickly?
- We should be fighting for their hearts
- We need to strive to understand them and their story with God’s help
- They need to watch someone living for God to know how to live for God
- It used to be a standard to have 1 adult leader for every 5 students in ministry. But in today's world, we need to get 5 adults speaking into the life of every one teen.
- We’re not trying to create perfect students, but an environment where students can encounter
God.
- There’s no other kind of leader style except Servant Leadership. They must see us work hard and stay humble.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Never Give Up
Many of us probably watched the Superbowl just over a week ago. The Seattle Seahawks faced off against the New England Patriots. The Patriots came into the game under much controversy, being accused of being cheaters. They found themselves down by two scores in the fourth quarter, and it didn't look good. But the continued to play their style of football, and they were able to come back and take a slight lead. But the Seahawks continued their style of football as well, having come back in several games throughout the year, and they moved the ball to the 2 yard line with almost a minute left in the game. Everyone thought they'd just score a touchdown and be repeat Superbowl Champions. But the Patriots were able to intercept the ball on the goal line, and win the game. It was a very entertaining game, and the Patriots come back will be remembered for years to come. LIFE LESSON - No matter how bad it looks, don't give up. God didn't create us to be quitters.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Continuing Education
This past week I had the chance to be with other DYD's from across the nation at an annual gathering to share ideas and resources. Several leaders unveiled new books that they had just finished writing as part of their studies for the Master's degree. Though accomplished leaders, they were still furthering themselves to be the best they could be. It reminded me that we should always be learning, always be growing, always striving to become better for God. Here's a few ideas to inspire you on:
     - Prioritize your personal study of God's Word, and try to add an extra minute
or two for studying Christian articles and publications
     - Explore a relationship with a seasoned veteran minister to share life and
learn from their  examples and experiences
     - Connect regularly with other ministers in your area to share ideas and
discuss new methods and models of ministry
     - Subscribe to regular Christian blogs and podcasts online and take time once
       a week to peruse them
     - Use the free resources that come to your door as an AG minister
(Enrichment, weekly Superintendent updates, monthly national newsletters,
       etc.)
     - Contact our District Office and/or your closest AG college to ask about ways
to further your credential and/or degree

This past week was a District Director's Conference in Branson, MO. It was a wonderful time of connecting with other national leaders and enjoying new vision and resource from our National Office. On Wednesday night, we had our annual BGMC Banquet and they honored a young student for personally giving more than $17,000 to BGMC. They interviewed him on stage, and Mary Boyd, National BGMC Director, was trying to bring up the idea of a picture with our General Superintendent George O. Wood. She asked the boy if he knew who the president was, and he promptly answered correctly. They she asked him if he'd ever heard of Dr. George Wood and he said, 'never heard of him'. It brought a huge laugh, and Dr. Wood loved the moment as well. LIFE LESSON - Never get too big to laugh at the humble moments in life.
