1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Simple Plans for Spiritual Growth
With our Summer Camps approaching, my office is in full swing getting details prepared. We're excited to once again have hundreds of students and leaders at our campgrounds in Lexington for a week at a time, seeking after God and allowing Him to change our lives. Our prayer is that camp would not be just a memory or a moment, but rather that it would propel a lasting impact in our students lives. The challenge is always to help them take the momentum they experience at camp and continue feeding it once they return home. Camp is most effective when students apply spiritual disciplines in their daily routine throughout the rest of the summer. Here are 3 devotional goals to inspire your campers with to keep the fire going all summer long (from Scotty Gibbons in his book, The Big 10):

1. Make prayer easy
2. Direct students toward helpful Bible reading plans
3. Encourage students to journal.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Friends
This past week I had the privilege of hosting a small group for Youth Pastors and Leaders in Omaha at Glad Tidings Church. About 15 leaders came out from across the region. Many had to leave after our time was over, so the lunch plans had narrowed down to Jordin and Maresha. Though small, I still decided to go and I'm glad I did. As we made our way to the cars, the last ones leaving the church, their car wouldn't start. We worked around the situation trying to figure something out, and then finally I got in the driver's seat to try anything. Amazingly, I was able to get the car started. Quickly they jumped in and we promptly canceled lunch so they could make it home before the car stalled again. LIFE LESSON - Stick together with others; there's power in groups to help each other when in need.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Weather
This past week was the first week of severe thunderstorms this year in Grand Island, NE. On Wednesday night, a siren went off at about 5:30pm. Several Youth Groups cancelled to meet that evening. I went to do a Camp Promotion at Echo Ministries, which kept their group open. Several students came and a highlight was having them pray for each other at the end of the night. Later, one of our NE Youth Pastors was married on Saturday. They'd planned an outdoor wedding, and Saturday came with cloud cover, strong winds, and the threat of thunderstorms again. We kept the wedding outside and enjoyed the breeze during the ceremony. The rains held off until nightfall and the wedding was a success. LIFE LESSON - You never know what the weather is going to do, like many other situations in life as well Be flexible and adapt as necessary, and everything will work out according to God's Plan.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Campus Clubs
One of the great ministries available to Youth Pastors and leaders in the US is that of Youth Alive. This is our arm of ministry to prepare students to minister to their friends at school. They have permission to setup a small group that would meet on campus once a week in a sponsoring teachers room. They can invite people to join them, study God's Word, pray for each other, and strategize about how to reach more of their classmates for Christ. Here's some important steps from our Eastern Convention speaker last year Kyle Embry, for starting a Campus Club (from his book Hidden in Plain Sight)

1. Find a teacher willing to let you use their classroom.
2. Meet with the principal to ask permission. Have specific details ready. Youth pastors should be willing to go to if need be.
3. Find another student to partner with.
4. Follow a monthly plan: week 1 - watch a video (I am Second), week 2 - youth pastor speaks, week 3 - student leader speaks, week 4 - special service Project or fun activity
5. Assign a young adult leader to work with the team and attend their meetings
Take attendance at each meeting

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
This past week I had the privilege of attending North Central University's Graduation. Usually we have about 5 to 10 Nebraska students who will be honored in the ceremony and I'm happy to attend as a Board of Regent member on their behalf. As the students were making their way onto the stage to receive their diplomas, I saw a familiar face - Kenon. He had been a student from Grand Island when I first became the DYD and moved to town. He had moved away several years ago to Minnesota to a Master's Commission Program. I didn't know that he would be graduating and it was a pleasant surprise. After the ceremony is finished, the President asked all of our board members and the staff to gather around the students and pray for them. After the prayer I found Kenon and gave him a big hug, surprising him. He didn't think anyone from Nebraska would be there beside his family to cheer him on. LIFE LESSON - Show up for the important things in life. You never know who'll be there to connect with.
