1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Involving Parents in Ministry
As leaders that work with young people, we must recognize the value of helping their parents and guardians. The atmosphere in the home could be the greatest influence in the lives of our kids. This is a challenge for many young pastors, especially if they don't have children of their own. Here's some tips on things you can do, from Brian Dollar in the book, I Blew It

1. Help them pray with you for their students
2. Involve them in water baptisms
3. Work in unison with other ministries with themes and calendars
4. Include a family devotion in the weekly bulletin
5. Conduct classes for training on important relevant topics
6. Have a family service at times where they can all be together and make it kid friendly
7. Sermon series on family dynamics
8. Parent tips: pray with kids daily, do family devotions, worship together, serve as a family at the church, model Godly behavior, have open dialogue

2). Ministry of the Day: Prayer Zone Partners - Help sign up the parents and adults in your church, to pray for the schools in your community every time they drive by one.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Check Your Aim
This past weekend I had the great privilege to join my friends in Iowa at their Network Merge Conference, an event held for all the leadership teams of churches throughout the state. I was speaking a couple of lab sessions with youth leaders, and as is my custom, I tried to involve several different learning styles in my sBessions: pictures, slides, videos, games, books, freebies, etc. I was throwing out mini footballs and old kids camp frisbees to people that had spoken different suggestions for an opening question. One man in the back shouted out an answer, so I reared back to throw him a frisbee. Unfortunately, the frisbee took off on a different trajectory than I had expected and it hit my friend Carrie right in the forehead! LIFE LESSON: Watch your aim, especially when speaking in front of others!

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - New Ministry Methods?
As a leader of annual summer camps, I'm constantly thinking about ways to change our programming to improve it from the year before. This isn't a bad thing. We want to keep it fresh and exciting for the students returning year after year. But there are times when we've quickly abandoned an idea that we only used once and could have potentially gotten more leverage by doing it again and again. I think that sometimes our desire to repeatedly impress people may cause us to too quickly discard efficient methods of discipleship. And we must remember that just because they were impressed doesn't mean they were discipled! Often we may discard something because we don't enjoy the process of developing it and we're ready for something new ourselves. I want to encourage our leaders to take some time to develop your ministry methods and be faithful to the system before you abandon it for the next big thing. I don't believe it's one particular ministry style over another that changes lives, but ultimately the quality of the ministry we bring that makes a difference.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Flexible
This past weekend I had the chance to be scheduled to play acoustic guitar for worship at my church. I've done it several times in the past, but this time was different. As I arrived early in the morning, one of our other worship guitarists was on stage already plugged in and ready to go, and even with a friend trying it out for the first time. I could have been frustrated, but I chose to roll with it. I had some more time to do some devotions in the morning, and went to church with my family. The other worship member contacted me and apologized because they had read the schedule wrong, but it wasn't a problem, though I appreciated it. LIFE LESSON - When the schedule changes, don't lose your cool. Be flexible and enjoy it.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Approaches to Pain
This morning I get the privilege of preaching the Chapel Service at Trinity Bible College. Trinity is one of our regional Assembly of God schools in North Dakota. I'll be speaking about being a winning team amidst the madness in our world. With that madness often comes a tremendous amount of pain. There is a level of pain and suffering that all of us endure. In his book Disappointment with God, Phillip Yancey discusses the various approaches we may have when it comes to understanding the pain in our lives...

1. God doesn't exist
2. God exists but lacks power
3. Everything becomes fair in the end (karma)
4. Insist the world is fair - denial
5. Try to deal with it by assuming presumed purpose.
6. Life is unfair - deal with it

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Praise Breaks for Kids
When working with children, any leader will tell you that it takes some significant planning and strong leadership to be successful. Often, our children's leaders put forth the most energy when leading their congregation during services. It's one of the elements that sometimes keeps people from considering to volunteer to work with kids, but when exhausted because of depleting all of our energy for God in service to kids is so rewarding. With strong leadership, comes intention direction to the students, helping them know what they are doing, how to do it, and the 'why' behind it. In praise and worship, here are some great elements suggested as intentional actions to take as breaks between songs, by Dick Gruber in his book 'Cultivating a Cutting Edge Children's Church'

1. Psalm 46:10 - Be Still and know that I am God
2. Psalm 47:1 - Shout unto God with a voice of Triumph

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Signs of Pride
Working around leaders, I get to interact with incredible influential people. As awesome as that is, at times it's challenging because of one of the common pitfalls of pride. Too many of us struggle at times with feeling like we are entitled and deserve better treatment than others. Here's some signs that you may be too prideful, from the book The Catalyst Leader, by Brad Lomenick:

1. You need an entourage
2. You're unreachable
3. You only make time for those who can do something for you
4. You speak more than you listen
5. You quit laughing at yourself
6. You feel some jobs are beneath you.
