1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Church?
The New Testament is clear that Jesus' plan for to reach our lost world is through His church. The church is His body of believers scattered throughout the world. His disciples built the church and the persecution at the time helped spread the Gospel through them around our planet. It's the reason we have churches in our country today. But what exactly is a 'church'?
Some think it's a building, others maybe an institution, but God intended for it to be a movement. It's a collection of believers in any given area bonding together for support in fulfilling the Great Commission by making disciples. This is the message that can never change, but the methods can change emphatically from place to place.
Most churches meet on Sunday mornings, are led by a paid pastor and an elected board, own property, oversee various departments and programs, and have non-profit tax status. These are all great methods, tried and true, but are still methods that can change according to the circumstances.
A church could meet on Saturday morning, or Wednesday night, or every Monday over the lunch hour. They could rent out space from a community gathering place, meet outside, at a coffeeshop or restaurant, or in someone's home or online. The ideas can go on and on. The point is that we should be creative in our approach to facilitating church, so that we can reach as many people as possible in our mission to create disciples.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Transformation
This past weekend was Easter and my family and I had the chance to visit the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore. We were planning to attend a sunrise service at the monument but the weather was so cold that we chose a local church instead. The pastor was preaching about God's Unexpected Grace and he gave an altar call for salvation at the end of service. After speaking about how he had given his life to Christ several years before in the same location, he asked people to respond and about 10 people surrendered their lives to Christ on Easter Morning. LIFE LESSON - God wants to save us not just so we can experience life with Him, but so we can share it with others as well. True disciples help make disciples of others as well.

1). Blog Entry: Explore Creativity
Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking to a class of Youth Ministry students at SAGU in Texas through SKYPE. The focus was on Jr. High Ministry and I was encouraging them to explore their creativity when preparing messages. Someone asked me a question how they could explore their creativity. Great question! Here's some thoughts that I have:

- Find a place to get creative in your personal worship of God. Writing songs, crafting items, dancing, etc.
- Schedule time in to be creative and research ideas.
- Teach a Sunday School class or small group where you can try to implement new concepts in a smaller setting
- Consider what real life situations you can use to teach a principle, in the same way Jesus used parables about every day items to teach the people of his day.
- Mix things up: drive a different route, shop at different stores, try new restaurants, travel often, take a chance...
- While embracing holy boundaries, enjoy entertainment to keep your imagination fresh.
- Work as a team and regularly host brainstorming sessions to foster more new perspectives.
- Volunteer on Worship Teams and stay involved in Fine Arts
- Join a community group focused on the arts, like reading, drama, traveling, etc.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Pray
On our way to church yesterday, we took a common route that passes a house that is known around the community for going big on decorations for Halloween. And by 'big' I mean too much, because they would have gross images and depictions that weren't appropriate for kids, and probably not for adults either. We'd always severely disliked their exhibition and my wife had expressed our concern both to them and the city without change. So she just kept praying every time we drove by that God would shut them down. Driving by yesterday, she pointed out that the family had moved and the house was torn down to make room for a building project like a business or apartments. LIFE LESSON - Keep praying, because God can always come through.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Helping Students get into the Bible
One of the challenges of leaders in today's culture is to hep young people develop a love for God's Word. This isn't necessarily new to youth ministry, but in a culture that is becoming more and more 'anti-Christian', the Bible is viewed as an ancient book without meaning. But we know that God's Word are His Words, alive and powerful to us. We also know that no other activity is as effective in discipleship as reflection upon God's Word. So what can we do to help them grow in this disciple? Here are some ideas from Duffy Robbins in his book, Building a Youth Ministry that Builds Disciples

1. Journaling Scripture
2. Doodling Verses with pics
3. Bible on the wall or whiteboard
4. Social network verses of the day

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Persevere
This past weekend was our 'B' League finals for Junior Bible Quiz in Lincoln, NE. We had 6 teams from several different churches competing with their memory of Bible Verses. One particular student was honored for two different awards. The Quiz Out Award - those who answered 6 questions in a single match the most during the meet; and the Quiz Out Backwards Award (The Great Attempter) - those who answered 3 questions wrong in a single match the most during the meet. It's the first time we've seen a student win in both arenas. It shows that even though he missed a few questions once a while, he didn't let it get to him and cower in fear but he kept giving it his best, and was able to do very well in additional matches. 1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Being Shaken
Throughout our lives, each of us will face times when we feel like our world is shaking. This is difficult because we often assume that life as a Christian means no more struggles, but that isn't true at all. When we look to the Word, we see that some of God's great champions went through significant ordeals and surely didn't enjoy a carefree life. In fact, some of them had many more issues on this earth once they committed to follow God and Christ. So why would God allow that in our lives? Here are some thoughts on why God allows our lives to be 'shaken', from Jon Bevere in his book, The Bait of Satan,

1. To bring us closer to our foundation
2. To remove what is dead off the top
3. To harvest what is ripe and ready for production
4. To awaken us out of our slumber
5. To unify or mix together so we can no longer be separated from God or our church

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - 'Guilty'
Yesterday in church, the worship pastor preached a message about the heart of true worship. He made several good points about what true worship is and how sometimes we settle for less. One lady a few rows back from me was verbally acknowledging her appreciation of his message with several 'Amen's' and such. At one point, he made a statement and suddenly the entire congregation heard her say 'GUILTY', admitting that he was speaking directly to her. I chuckled a bit to myself but then thought about the moment a bit deeper. Though she publicly admitted her need to improve in worship in one particular area, surely we all could have cried out 'Guilty' at different times as well. Most of us were too busy letting her do all the talking, rather than making it personal for ourselves. LIFE LESSON - When listening to a sermon, we need to apply it to our lives and let God show us areas where we are guilty and need to change as well.
