1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Memorial Lessons
Yesterday was the Memorial Service for my friend and Nebraska Missionary Jim Byh. He had a heart attack last week that ended his life on this earth and began his journey in eternity. The service was held at Christ's Place Church in Lincoln. Here's a couple of take-aways from the event:
     - Several National Leaders were on hand to honor Jim for his hard work in their service. As leaders, we need to honor those who serve under us in the organizations we direct.
     - Each person made a comment to Kristi and her girls, Jim's family, about praying for them and desiring to help in any way possible. Family always come before Ministry
     - Several people mentioned they were mad or confused by his untimely death, but still put their trust in the Lord. It's OK for us to struggle through the details of our lives, as long as we don't give up on God even when it doesn't make sense to us.
     - Many pastors from the district and his missionary organization were on hand. We are a team. If we are going to be a part of something, be 'All In' and support each other the best we can.
     - Jim was known as being bold for Christ. It was mentioned that his efforts helped reach 42 million kids in Africa for Christ. We must press in and take advantage of each opportunity God gives us to work for Him.
     - Every speaker mentioned how Jim described himself as a simple man. This simple man reached millions. We should be humble and choose to be small in life and let God make us as big as He desires.
     - Two African Pastors traveled to the service to speak on Jim's behalf. They were products of his ministry in Africa. We should work hard enough to let our work speak for itself.
     - A week ago I was talking to Jim at Council - one week later I was attending his memorial service. Life is fragile. Make the most of every opportunity while we can.

My wife and I volunteered at the Grand Island Little Theater production of 'The Rainmaker' this weekend at the College Park Theater. It was a fun romantic comedy set in a cowboy western culture. During the 2nd act, there was a scene where a farmhand was trying to go to sleep in the barn, laying down next to the stalls. 1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Prayer of Submission
We live in a culture that is largely centered around itself. In America, we are used to having many possessions and plenty of entertainment options at our disposal literally every hour of the day. Most of us haven't had to sacrifice that much in our lives. So when we are asked to set aside time for serving, or money for giving, or priorities for God's Will - it's a huge challenge. Recently, reading through A.W. Tozer's The Pursuit of God, I came upon a great prayer that we could add to our daily or weekly devotions, to help with being submitted to God in all that we are:

'O God, be thou exalted over my possessions. Nothing of earth’s treasures shall seem dear unto me if only Thou art glorified in my life. Be thou exalted over my friendships. I am determined that Thou shalt be above all, though I must stand deserted and alone in the midst of the earth. Be Thou exalted above my comforts. Though it mean the loss of bodily comforts and the carrying of heavy crosses I shall keep my vow made this day before Thee. Be Thou exalted over my reputation. Make me ambitious to please Thee even if as a result I must sink into obscurity and my name be forgotten as a dream. Rise, O Lord, into Thy proper place of honor, above my family, my health and even my life itself. Let me decrease that Thou mayest increase, let me sink that Thou mayest rise above. Ride forth upon me as Thou didst ride into Jerusalem mounted upon the humble little beast, a colt, the foal of an ass, and let me heart the children cry to Thee, ‘Hosanna in the highest.’

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Thankful
This past week was our annual District Council business meetings in Hastings. By leaving the office for most of the week, I had a bunch of paperwork to catch up on in just one day at the office. As I was moving through the many letters, I was opening several letters with checks for students going on AIM Mission Trips this summer. Several were for a student named Kaylee from my church in Grand Island. I sent her a message by the end of the workday informing her of her improved status, now just a few hundred away from her overall goal. At our Missions Sunday service yesterday, where each family is challenged to set a goal to give to Missions this year, our Youth Pastor asked Kaylee to come forward to give a testimony. In tears, she expressed her gratefulness for the several gifts that had come in from church members. The promises were sure to be some of the best we've ever received after such a heartfelt story of thanks. LIFE LESSON - Be grateful for the acts of kindness that other Christians give on your behalf.

1). Blog Entry: Creating Culture
This week we are hosting our annual NE Assemblies of God District Council in Hastings at North Shore Church. Much of the discussion has been about how we are striving to improve our collaboration with each other as a team of ministers reaching our state. In trying to change our current culture, I was reminded of some thoughts from a recent book I've been reading, Soup, by Jon Gordon

1. The business culture is a direct reflection of the leader.
2. Culture drives behavior and behavior drives habits
3. Culture is powerful and effective

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Finish Strong
This past weekend was our Bible Quiz Finals for Teen and Junior A Leagues, at Kearney New Life. A few of our churches have two of more teams that are used to practicing against each other each week at home. Usually there is one that most often finishes in front of the other. Bu this weekend we had 2 teams that were tied heading into the final match. The underdog scored more points in the final match and overtook their other team to take 3rd place overall in the match and win a trophy to take home! LIFE LESSON - Never give up, finish strong, you never know what a difference those last few moments can make.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Constant Growth
Ministry can often seem to focused on numbers. How many attendees were there, did you hit your budget goals, what was the offering, etc. The administrative task of organizing the numbers of your ministry doesn't have to be wrong though, it's all about the motives. We should want to grow because God's called us to make disciples of all nations (Matt 28:19). Sometimes, we pray for growth in our ministry not realizing that one of the greatest ways God answers that question is by growing us personally. We are the greatest ingredient in the strategy to reach our part of the world, and if we want to grow as a church, youth group, team, than it starts by growing us first. How do you keep growing in your own journey as a spiritual leader? Here's some ideas to ponder:

- Continue furthering your ministry credentials. This helps with overall ministry knowledge, follows the path laid out by our top fellowship authorities, and increases our respect among people following us who are trying to advance in their own career fields.
- Set small goals for growth in your own daily devotions. Start a commentary journal, pray at a favorite outdoor spot, set aside 5 more minutes, bookmark a youtube Worship song and start every day with it, etc.
- Develop a plan for regular study of Christian literature. I like to workout at the gym and read books on my Kindle. To this point in 2016, I've finished 8 books almost solely by this method.
- Submit to a spiritual leader. All of us need all of us to accomplish a 'God-sized' dream. Don't ask others to follow you when you are unwilling to follow a leader for your own benefit as well.
- Be creative. Look for ways to enhance all of your ministry tasks in a way that changes it up to keep it fresh. This helps common jobs become a form of worship.
- Be in a small group. This can seem challenging when we are the leader in the church, but our fellowship provides small groups through pastor meetings, annual events, training opportunities, community lunches, etc. Again, don't ask of others what you are unwilling to do yourself. Strong peer relationships become an anchor in our lives when things go wrong and we feel like falling back.
