1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons
Recently my license expired. It took me too long to renew it so when I arrived at the DMV they required me to take a test, both written and driving. After I completed the written test, they said that they were too busy for a driving test that day so I would have to come back another day. That happened twice until I finally had the chance to drive and pass. They gave me a temporary license until my official one would arrive in the mail in a couple weeks. Before it arrived, I flew out to a STL conference with my wife. Sure enough, when I showed the temporary license as a form of ID at security, they asked to see the old one, stating that temporary licenses were no longer acceptable. I had left it at home, so they put me through the entire security screening protocols, with a full pat down. LIFE LESSON - Don't be late again, the consequences stink!

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Speaking
Most leaders in ministry will get the opportunity to preach or speak in front of people at some point in their journey. This can be a tough task, as speaking in front of a crowd is one of the fears that most people struggle with. But if God called us, He'll help us do it well. Here's a few tips from Scotty Gibbons in his book, 'The Big 10', to help with the task of speaking:

1. Prepare an annual speaking calendar
2. Make sermon planning a team effort
3. Think about your audience as you write
4. Focus on one main point
5. Your message should lead people to action

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Practice what you Preach
Recently I was in a church service where a Pastor preached about how to deal with people who hurt you. It was a great message that challenged me. Later we were out to lunch with him, when he looked across the room and saw a man on the other end of the restaurant that he recognized. This man had previously worked with him and they had experienced some uncomfortable working situations. On his own, the pastor got up and went over to the man, hugging him and his wife, and greeting them before continuing on with our meal. Not only did I watch this pastor preach a great message, I saw him live it out. LIFE LESSON - Practice what you preach.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Persevere
This past week was our annual NYM Missions Bike Ride. We rode our bikes from the CO Border near Imperial, NE to the Bob Kerry Bridge over the Missouri River linking Nebraska and Iowa in Omaha. We finished almost 400 miles in an effort to raise funds for our missionaries. We had many flat tires, accidents over rail road tracks, loose chains, sore legs, stormy weather, etc. but we followed one simple rule to finish strong - keep going. Sure, we had to be flexible, stay hydrated, medicate appropriately, etc. but a common thought to all of us was just keep going. If you're facing a tough obstacle and you're not sure what to do, the least you can continue to do is keep going and don't give up!

1). LIFE LESSONS - Make Someone's Day
Last week, my wife got an invitation to see an old friend of ours from our days at Bellevue Christian Center in the 90's. She was involved with volunteering at our state fair in Grand Island, NE, which is where we now live and minister from. Kim and invited me to come over for lunch. I was very busy, and even had to ride my bike to the fair to be there, but I decided to go ahead and do it for my friend. It was very hot out, the ride wasn't very comfortable, I was late, I could only stay for 10 minutes or so, I missed lunch - there were a lot of things that made it tough. But our friend Angie loved it and she said to Kim, 'You guys really made my day.' Interesting enough, I got a call the next day from a local Dairy Queen. They were awarding bike riders to the Fair with a $30 gift card to encourage more local bikers, and sure enough my name was drawn from the day before! LIFE LESSON - We should go out of our Way to Make Someone's Day when we can.
