1). Blog Entry: All In
This past week I had the privilege of attending our two regional Assembly of God Bible Colleges, Trinity in North Dakota, and North Central in Minneapolis. Trinity was dedicated a new Prayer Chapel with national leaders and board members on hand to celebrate with us. During the Chapel service, an older farming couple came to the mic to tell their story. The Vice President had come to their home to present the plans for the Prayer Chapel and asked them to help give toward the $500,000 project. The couple looked at each other and the lady said that they would give $2 million dollars. They gave 4 times the amount required and helped the school develop a beautiful Prayer Chapel for many generations to come. LIFE LESSON - Don't be afraid to give people a chance to give. And don't be afraid to give everything to God.

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Appealing to the Masses
One of the trends we've seen in ministry over the last couple of decades is the change of styles within our services to accommodate the preferences of the millennial culture. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as we are doing all we can to reach out to people to draw them in to be changed by the Gospel. But it's easy for us to focus so much on making them happy that we don't allow God to use us to challenge them to change. It's a constant challenge that we must be balanced with in our ministry, and we probably need the help of someone close to us to help us know we where are at in this endeavor from time to time. Mark Batterson describes this ironic assignment in his book, 'Circle Maker', the roles of a leader...

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Volunteers
This past weekend we had about 15 men that came to our campgrounds. They volunteered several hours of labor, helping us tear off the old siding from our Activities Center and beginning the process of installing new siding. We finished far more than we thought we would, and even began a new project within the building that we didn't think we'd get to for a long time. The guys enjoyed their time with us, completing a task, offering free assistance, and having fun with each other. We sat around the fire at night with a small devotion and some worship to cap off the first day as well. LIFE LESSON - Consider volunteering somewhere, it does a ton of good!

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Wins
This past Monday we had a Youth and Kids Leaders Core Group in Grand Island. One of the interesting topics that came up was the concept of a ministry win: how do we define what a 'win' is for us in student ministries?
We discussed it at length, talking about helping students grasp the knowledge of Scripture well enough to apply it in their everyday lives. We also talked about the challenge of doing that with adults in a Sunday morning context as well.
So how do you define a win? Here's some thoughts from my perspective. It starts with first praying and letting God lead us. When we accomplish His purposes, it's always a win, regardless of how we analyze the results. Opportunities for growth and change are never bad. Even if it's only a small group that participates, it still means something to them. We must remember that Discipleship has many different levels from a Non-Believer all the way to a Seasoned Saint. Any activity that helps us remember where we are at on the journey and consider moving forward is important and desirable. To take that a step further, the more we can document those moments in the lives of the people we are leading, we can track their journey to give us ideas for next steps for them. Individualized strategies and outcomes for each of our disciples is the target.

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - Keep it to Yourself
A few months back my wife and I went to a play at a theater nearby. We love to go there for shows and normally we really enjoy them. This particular play had a very slow start and we had been very busy leading up to the show so we were quite tired. The scene on the stage was of someone falling asleep in a comical way. We noticed each other struggling to keep our eyes open and chuckled amongst ourselves. Suddenly, a lady from the audience yelled out, 'I think it's my bedtime too!' LIFE LESSON - Don't say everything that you hear in your head!

1). Blog Entry: Leaders Corner - Communication Questions?
Have you ever said something that offended someone else unintentionally? I'm sure we can all relate with this thought because it happens quite often in our day and age. Though our motives may have been completely innocent, the perception of the statement by the person receiving it is what constitutes whether it was wrong or right. As leaders who strive to be excellent in communication, especially with large groups of kids or teenagers, it's important for us to remember the audience to whom we are speaking when we plan what we are going to say and do. So what things need to be considered when preparing to speak to teens or kids in ministry? Here's some thought provoking questions to help you as you plan for this, from Duffy Robbins in his book, 'Speaking to Teenagers':

- If the room is dark, what does that communicate?
- If I use sarcasm, what does that communicate?
- If I have to be funny, how does that limit my topics?
- Can I be creative while also teaching the text?
- Do I use great illustrations from inappropriate origins?

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - The Past
This past week I had the privilege of attending the National Maps/RV Convention in Carlinville, IL. This is a ministry for retired people who travel around the country, mostly in RV's, visiting approved project sites for building construction and improvements for churches and ministries around the nation. I made a presentation for our project at the camp, finishing the Rec Center and putting on new siding next Spring. It was my first time and I only knew a few of our NE people that were on hand. When they called my name to present, the entire place erupted in applause. Afterward, I had several people come to my table and tell me they were either from NE or they had spent time in NE on Maps projects all over the state. I found out that several of our churches have benefited from this ministry and the past, and most of the building that's occurred in the last 30 years has had Maps participation at our campground. LIFE LESSON - Don't forget the past, but learn from it and honor it for a better future.

God is always speaking to us - sometimes we just don't know that it's Him talking! Our circumstances, family and friends, leaders, and even our very own bodies could be God speaking to us. Here's a few physical traits that could be the voice of God trying to get our attention, according to Peter Scazzero in his book 'Emotionally Healthy Spirituality':

Ways God speaks through our bodies
1. Knot in the stomach
2. Muscle tension
3. Trembling and shaking
4. The release of adrenaline
5. Headaches
6. Elevated heart rates

1). Blog Entry: Life Lessons - God's Timing
Last week my wife and I had the privilege of attending a National STL Banquet on behalf of the Nebraska District of the Assemblies of God in Charlotte, NC. Those that have been following the news will remember that Charlotte was the scene of a violent act between the police and a citizen that caused several riots in the city and beyond. It was even mentioned several times in the presidential debate last week as well. We knew that the hotel we were staying at was a safe location, but as we arrived the first night, we remembered that there would be no breakfast in the morning, so we looked around for a place to get some snacks. We found a Walgreens, but when we arrived it was boarded up. Then we found a Walmart that was open, and though we were able to get the goods we wanted, we noticed several unruly characters milling about the area. Later when we checked into the hotel, we mentioned our experience to the hotel employee, who proceeded to tell us that there had been some looting at those locations just a day or two before we arrived. LIFE LESSON: Trust God's Timing, putting us where we belong at just the right time.
